A friend, Stavros Anthias, caught this sunrise over Durban on his morning walk — cloudy, with the light breaking through low along the water. I painted it from that photograph because it's emotive, and looking at it still reignites my love for the sea.
Durban mornings like that one have a particular quiet to them, before the beach properly wakes up — that's the part I always try to hold onto in paint.
