I visited Tankwa Karoo National Park while driving from Cape Town to Harare, and the stark desolation has stayed with me since — it's a reminder of how something can survive, even thrive, in conditions that look harshest from the road. Look closer, though, and it's far from empty: the place is bustling with life that's simply built for it.
